WHAT IS A BREAST REDUCTION PROCEDURE?
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, offers a transformative solution for individuals seeking relief from the physical and emotional burden of disproportionately large breasts. This surgical procedure targets excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin, sculpting the breasts to achieve a more balanced and proportionate size.

Breast reduction is a procedure to make breasts smaller. The plastic surgeon removes breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to reduce its size and change its shape and position on the chest. Notably, breast reductions are often covered by insurance companies due to their potential to alleviate discomfort, back pain, and chronic migraines or headaches associated with larger breasts. Typically performed under general anesthesia, breast reduction surgery lasts approximately 3-4 hours. Our preferred method involves creating an anchor-shaped incision around the areola and following the natural crease under the breast surface. Excessive glandular fat, tissue, and skin are removed, while the areola and nipple are repositioned to a new location on the breast. Finally, incisions are carefully closed, and sutures, skin adhesives, and/or surgical tape are applied to support the newly reshaped breasts. Through breast reduction surgery, individuals can experience physical relief, enhanced self-confidence, and a renewed sense of comfort and well-being.
You should be an adult in good general health, preferably a non-smoker. Patients undergoing this procedure should have realistic expectations for the results after surgery, as well as be ready to maintain a healthy lifestyle and follow the medical team’s instructions for recovery and beyond.

BREAST REDUCTION RECOVERY
- An elastic bandage or support bra may be recommended to minimize swelling and provide support to the breasts as they heal.
- A thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain excess blood or fluid and reduce the risk of infection.
- No heavy lifting, pushing, or straining during the immediate post-operative period.
- Temporary fatigue and soreness for a few weeks post-surgery is common.
- Patients may experience slight discomfort for 1-2 weeks after surgery, but most can resume normal activities within 2 weeks, although this may vary based on individual healing progress.
